A Church Resource Ministries Singapore (CRMS) and Christians in Theatre Arts (CITA) Singapore event.

Objective
An exposure to various theatre forms for worship, Christian growth and outreach. Some theatre forms presented are easily incorporated into existing ministry in more conservative congregations, others are more modern and experimental. All of the forms transcend age, culture & language. Live examples, video samples and some participatory activities will expose participants to a wide variety of styles. This will inspire them to explore and learn more after this inspiring out-of-the-box day!

“…God is using you so strongly and the evidence I have is you changed my life… I used what
you gave me to help others… getting numbers to Jesus.”

Topics

Biblical Storytelling — Making the text come alive as if the teller were an eyewitness of the event and telling it for the first time.

Reader’s Theatre — Also called “theatre of the mind” because props or sets are not used. There are special skills associated with this form of theatre which can present effectively many types of literature.

Slice of Life Sketches — Short plays or scenes which are related to the sermons or the topic of worship. In the same way a pastor uses illustrations in his sermons, these sketches are used to soften hearts as the congregation identifies with the issues by seeing drama or comedy reflect their lives.

Playback Theatre — Playback is a ritualistic modern form of theatre used in community settings to improvise plays from stories told by the audience. It is a powerful tool for breaking down barriers and bringing people together in sharing their stories. There is remarkable receptiveness to the Holy Spirit, even in a non church setting, when Christians use playback for sharing their stories of faith.

Enacted Prayer — Derived from Playback Theatre, Enacted Prayer is used to improvisationally pray through images created on stage, or in any space where “actors” can move. A powerful new form also called “Prophetic Drama” in some circles.

Future seminar/workshops will include: Mime, Puppets, Dance, Improvised Physical Worship and Ministering to Children through Drama
