History & Mission

Our History

CRMS which stands for Church Resource Ministries Singapore is a part of an international fraternity of ministries that was born in the United States in 1980 and has staff in 70 countries. Our parent organisation is CRM in the USA, and we have international CoNext partners in other countries who have been founded by the work of CRM US, but are independent organisations such as ours.

At the end of 1999 James Creasman had finished a year sabbatical studying Mandarin in China, and arrived in Singapore with a vision to empower and coach leaders in the churches of Singapore. He believed that Singaporean Christians are uniquely equipped for effective ministry to the rest of South East Asia. His dream is that Singaporean Christians would have a remarkable impact on the future church of China, the world’s most populous country with a young and growing church.

The first CRMS mentoring network began in 2001. At the annual IDMC (Intentional Disciplemaking Church) Conference, Edmund Chan had encouraged pastors to join a CRMS mentoring group with James and his partner in ministry Brian Burchell.

Following the life-changing impact of that first mentoring network of pastors, in 2003 CRMS was founded as a Society in Singapore. The Executive Committee present during the 2003 registration of CRMS included:

  • Bishop Moses Tay, Anglican Bishop – President
  • Alan Lim, YWAM – Vice President
  • Peter Poon, Presbyterian Pastor – Secretary
  • David Tang, Businessman – Treasurer
  • Andy Lim, Salvation Army – Member
  • Lawrence Chua, Brethren Pastor – Member
  • And 14 other society members
